    Hi Elaine & Mike,
You talked about Apple possibly providing a refurbished iPad when a new battery was required and said you didn’t fancy having your well cared for iPad replaced with someone’s battered one.

Well I had this same concern when Mr Jane’s iPhone needed to be replaced under AppleCare and I was told that the replacement would be a refurb’d iPhone.

Now, being one of those ever so slightly fanatical people who keeps their hardware as pristine as possible, you can imagine my consternation, nay horror, at the thought of receiving a less than immaculate iPhone from Apple.

I voiced my concerns to the AppleCare operative who, sensing my anguish, assured me that refurb’d iPhones are given new outer casings and it is only the inner workings of the device that have been used before. I dubiously accepted his explanation and upon receipt of the replacement iPhone I examined it with the metaphorical tooth-comb but could find no trace whatsoever of the iPhone casing having ever been in human hands. I was satisfied, which is saying something!

So I would hope that a similar system of case replacement will apply to iPads when new batteries are required.

Thanks for yet another fine show, keep ‘em coming!!

    cheers
    Jane

    Hi

On your point of noisy track pad clicking, I quite agree, it sounds very clunky and not at all the well-engineered device we have come to expect from Apple. I just opted for the silent “Tap to Click” mode which solved the problem for me.

It certainly made Mr Jane happier when he was no longer aurally (please note the spelling!! ;-) ) assaulted by my track pad.

    Cheers
    Jane

Regarding RipIt, it’s a very good piece of software and works well ripping DVDs both personal and commercial (naughty, naughty ( illegal )). To make a copy for burning to a DVD disc you need to use something like Handbrake or Elgato’s Turbo 264 HD to convert it first so it’s a little bit extra work but works fine.
