Elaine, if you are looking for another audio editor for podcast editing, I strongly recommend Amadeus Pro. I regularly edit a couple of (non-tech) podcasts and was dissatisfied with Garageband a couple of years ago, and remembered that I had gotten this in a bundle back in 2007. Amazingly, the upgrade to the latest version was still free (there has since been one paid upgrade). It supports both AU and VST plugins, has outstanding noise reduction features, automatically joins sections when you make a deletion, does batch processing, and is much easier than Garagebend for adjusting volume (you can draw curves, but you can also just highlight a section and specify a number of dB up or down), and it supports a far larger range. Perhaps my favorite feature is the ability to do a trial edit – you highlight a section and hit the ‘e’ key and you get to hear what it sounds like before actually making the deletion. It supports all sorts of file formats and is very well documented. It lacks Garageband’s loop-based music features, it is just an audio editor, but it has been much faster for me. It is in the Mac App Store ($59.99, and there is a Lite version with fewer features), but you can get a trial version at the web site (www.hairersoft.com). It is far easier to learn and use than Logic. David Allen of the Mac 20 Questions podcast, has some Amadeus Pro videos on YouTube. Amadeus Pro, like many audio programs, broke when Lion was released, and it was fixed within a week, unlike, say, Ambrosia’s products.
Elaine and Mike,
MacBites Episode 0063 was fantastic. Very informative and well done. Though, I am afraid that the more I hear about Lion the less likely I am to upgrade to it. I may be stuck on Snow Leopard for a long time to come.
As for your Mr. Clarkson he is pure genius! Top Gear is the best show on tv. Of course, Im in the U.S. and pretty much everything here is crap.
Thank you for another great podcast even though I am sad Mike is not the Stig.
