I too have been caring for my mum for the last two years as she is has Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia. I cracked under the strain as she needed her medication wasn’t working and I couldn’t get more help especially at night and at weekends – I looked after her by myself at home – and I ended up with her in hospital she’s been there nearly five months with me going to and throw but am about to get her into a nice care home close by. MacJim my heart goes out to you. That lack of help and feeling of being overwhelmed by bureaucratic box ticking has driven us all almost completely mad. We are lucky we have each other to share the load but the strain on Mum, Mike and me has at times been crippling. I now know what being tired truly means.
Thanks for sharing and I hope the situation for both you and your Mum improves with you getting the help and care you both need and deserve.
